En 1735, à l’occasion des négociations pour le traité de paix entre la France et l’Autriche, il a été décidé d’échanger des ambassadeurs. Le 12 octobre, soit quelques jours avant la signature du traité de paix, Mirepoix entre dans la ville avec un cortège de 64 carrosses. Le tableau montre le cortège, provenant du Scharzenberg Palace en direction d’une des portes de la ville (Kärntnertor). Le carrosse de l’ambassadeur traverse la rivière sur le Pont de pierre construit en 1400 et 1404. Derrière les fortifications on peu voir la bibliothèque de la cours, récemment achevée (1735) et l’église baroque Saint Augustine. |
