| Description |
English: Market Place, South Cave, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. Looking north towards the town hall from the corner of Market Place and Church Street. The town hall was built in 1796 with the Jubilee Clock erected by public subscription in 1887. Robert Sharp, schoolmaster and author of 'The Diary of Robert Sharp of South Cave: Life in a Yorkshire Village 1812-1837' lived here from 1804 until his death in 1843. Sharp's diary is considered historically important, being an exceptionally detailed account of village life between the end of the Napoleonic Wars and the Victorian era and also recording national events such as the burning of the Houses of Parliament in 1834. |
