Description
English: Market Place, Reading, looking southwards, c. 1890. On the east side, No. 8 (Sutton and Sons, seedsmen); No. 7 ("Reading Mercury" office); No. 6 (George Russell Butler and Son, estate agents); Nos. 5, 4 and 3 (Edward Morris and Company, drapers); and Nos. 2 and 1 (Lloyd's Bank). On the south side, No. 52 (Hill's Rubber Company). Horse-drawn cabs wait by the Simeon obelisk, designed by Sir John Soane. 1890-1899 glass negative, Box 19 number 8573, by H. W. Taunt. The plate is cracked on the right-hand side.
