Summary
[edit]DescriptionMarker post on the shore - geograph.org.uk - 1493444.jpg |
English: Marker post on the shore. This prominent post stands (not counting the mound at the base) about four metres tall. The blackened wood is about 30cm square in cross-section.
The mound on which the post stands is of a similar construction to those at 1493744 and the Old Wharf – https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1496336 – at Bowling, about 600 metres away; it probably dates to the same era. Perhaps the marker indicated a speed restriction for steamers on their final approach to the wharf (if I come across any documentation of its purpose, I will add it to this description). For a closer look at the top of the post, see: 1493441.] In the background, on the right, is a section of sea-wall leading towards a red light (1493744) that is just visible beneath the Erskine Bridge. |
