Description
English: Marines and sailors serving with 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, stand in formation behind a memorial cross here Dec. 10, 2012, in remembrance of Petty Officer 2nd Class Clayton R. Baeuchamp, a hospital corpsman with the battalion’s Bravo Company, who was killed during combat operations in Afghanistan, Aug. 7. Baeuchamp was 21 years old and a native of Weatherford, Texas. The practice of forming the memorial cross began during the American Civil War as a means of identifying bodies on the battlefield. (Official U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl. Sarah J. Wolff)
