Summary
[edit]| Description |
English: Marine Drive Looking north-east along the coast from near the limit of the car access. It is only possible to walk from this point to Port Soderick. Marine Drive was once an impressive three-mile clifftop drive and tramway, opened in 1896. The tramway went into decline after 1929 but continued on until 1939, when it was closed to all traffic as the adjacent sea was used for bombing practice. Postwar it never re-opened but car no 1 was saved and is now at Crich tramway museum. The roadway was re-instated in 1956 but some twenty years later it was closed again after major rockfalls.
