English: "Naval Hitler Youth in Service : Textbook for the practical and theoretical training of the Marine-Hitler Youth, published in 1942 by the National Youth Leadership (Reichsjugendführung) and E.S. Mittler & Sohn in Berlin"
The Marine Hitler Youth (Marine-HJ) was a special division within the Hitler Youth, dedicated to training future recruits for the Navy of Nazi Germany and serving as an auxiliary to it. Its goal was to instill the ideology of "German maritime superiority" and prepare graduates for the construction of a post-victory merchant fleet. Established in 1935, the Marine-HJ had close ties to the Kriegsmarine and operated several naval sports schools to meet the navy's requirements. Members of the Marine-HJ wore the rather expensive traditional uniform of the German navy. There was a double-breasted jacket with navy-blue trousers and a peaked cap. During seagoing exercises, they wore a white moleskin smock and trousers, and a navy-blue forage cap. The Waffenfarbe (arm of service color) of the Marine-HJ was blue and displayed in the form of piping on the shoulder straps and hats.
The Kriegsmarine was the navy of Germany from 1935 to 1945. It was one of three official branches, along with the Heer (army) and the Luftwaffe (Air Force), of the Wehrmacht, the German armed forces. |
