Description
English: French Marigold is a simple beauty, its petals are fringed, frilly and fun! They are famous for helping to keep many insect pests away and are one of the easiest flowers to grow. Its growth habit is compact, making it a great variety for interplanted with your tomatoes, peppers, cabbages, cucumbers and so many more.

French Marigold is actually native to Mexico and other South American regions. The name French Marigold was widely adapted in early centuries due to its popularity around French colonies.


Growth Habit: Compact growth of 6 to 12 inches, sturdy stems, large leaves, 4” flowers.

Sun Requirements: Full sun

Soil Preference: Average, well-drained soil.

When to Plant: Direct seed 2 weeks after last frost date OR start indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost date.

    • Growing tip: Pinch off flower tops as you notice signs of the flowers withering. Pinching off or dead heading, promotes growth of new flower heads.

How to Plant:

Direct sow: Sow seeds 2 weeks after last frost date ¼” deep. Seeds should germinate in 7-9 days. Thin young plants to 1 foot apart.

Transplant: Sow seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost date. Seeds should germinate in 7-9 days. Harden off seedlings before transplanting 2 weeks after the last frost date. Space plants 1 foot apart.

When to Harvest: Harvest blooms from Summer into Fall. Tolerates frost.

How to Harvest: Cut stems when flowers are half open for fresh, fully open for drying.
