Français : Cette toile fait partie des trois envois de Marie Bracquemond à la cinquième exposition impressionniste de 1880. Premier numéro au catalogue, elle est exposée sous le titre : « Étude d’après nature ». Grâce aux textes des critiques, notamment celui de Philippe Burty dans La République française du 10 avril 1880, le tableau a pu être identifié avec certitude : « Une jeune femme en blanc posant pour un peintre dans un verger » (Philippe Burty, «Exposition des Œuvres des Artistes indépendants», La République française, 10 avril 1880).
Ce tableau suscite quelques années plus tard les éloges de Gustave Geffroy « Là, dans la représentation du peintre travaillant à une étude d’après nature, […] par le faire aisé, la peinture de premier jet d’après des études le plus souvent dessinées, il y a une parenté avec la peinture du siècle dernier, une continuation d’art sans imitation, avec l’ajouté d’un sentiment très vif de la modernité, d’une originalité rapide et franche » (Gustave Geffroy, « Marie Bracquemond », La Vie artistique, III, Paris, 1894.). La femme en blanc posant à gauche n’est autre que Louise Quivoron, la demi-sœur de Marie, qui est à l’époque son modèle favori. La physionomie singulière et élégante du peintre au travail sous son parasol à droite fait inévitablement penser à James Tissot, reconnaissable à sa mèche et ses moustaches gominées. |
