Description

Mariah Carey sings her heart out as Boyz II Men watch on, for "One Sweet Day," which would go on to become the longest-lasting Billboard chart topper in history. This was my first-ever concert experience.

This was a one-off concert being videotaped for Fox network's Thanksgiving TV special the next month. As a result, there were many annoying pauses, and even a few re-takes. But I nevertheless enjoyed the show - a chance for me to enjoy Mariah Carey, my idol at the time, in her element. I was sobbing toward the end of the show!

This turned out to be my only time at Madison Square Garden. Not to mention my first live music show in New York City. The next one would have to wait until 2014 (and the artist for 2014, Anna Nalick, was only a grade schooler back in my California hometown, at this time in 1995).

As one of the few idols of my earlier years, Mariah Carey holds a special place in my heart. And with the passing of my other early idols - Michael Jackson in 2009, Whitney Houston in 2012 - Mariah Carey is also the last early idol of mine who is still alive.

I would also subsequently see Boyz II Men on 20 October 2014, in Glendale, California.
