Description
English: The picture depicts a group of girls from the 1920s sitting around an icon of Mary, the mother of Jesus in the garden of the Greek Catholic Cathedral of Hajdúdorog, Hungary.

According to tradition virgin girls, dressed in white carried the decorated icon on their shoulders around the cathedral on the Holy Virgin's feast day. The icon was even carried to Máriapócs, a pilgrimage site about 55 km away, on occasions of pilgrimage in honour of the Holy Mother.

The icon itself can be seen in the Cathedral of Hajdúdorog.
Magyar: A képen úgynevezett Mária-lányokat láthatunk az 1920-as évekből, amint az Istenszülő ikonját ülik körbe a hajdúdorogi görög katolikus székesegyház kertjében.

A hagyomány szerint Mária napkor fehérbe öltözött szűzek a vállukon vitték az ikont templomkerüléskor. Sőt mi több, a virágokkal feldíszített képet gyakran ugyanígy vitték el az 55 km-re lévő máriapócsi búcsúra.

A képet mind a mai napig a hajdúdorogi székesegyház őrzi.
