Deutsch: Das Amphitheater auf dem Kalenderberg in der niederösterreichischen Marktgemeinde Maria Enzersdorf.
Das Amphitheater ist ein halbkreisförmiger Bau mit 16 Massivpfeilern, kombiniert mit dorischen Säulen, und die durch Gewölbebögen verbunden sind, sowie zwei Türmen. Erbaut wurde die künstliche Ruine 1810/11 nach einem Entwurf des Architekten Joseph Hardtmuth (1758–1816), der auch die Bleistiftmine erfand. Bauherr war Fürst Johann I. Joseph von und zu Liechtenstein, der weitere zahlreiche künstliche Ruinen um 1810 auf und um den Kalenderberg errichten ließ. English: The amphitheatre, built 1810/11, is one of several artificial romantic ruines built by Prince Johann I. Joseph of Liechtenstein to enhance the black-pine forest he had planted in 1808. |
