The oldest traces of a church in Mareuil back to 1253, a bull of Innocent IV. Built in stone of Bourré in the late eleventh early twelfth century. Romanesque traces are still visible on the outside of the nave arches, buttresses and trace of the old gear on the western facade. After the Hundred Years War, the small openings making the church a place of refuge no longer justified. New Gothic windows are opened to illuminate the side chapels of the nave. In 1698, following successive floods, the tower collapses. At the end of the seventeenth early eighteenth century, the current tower was rebuilt. Revolution prevents the practice of worship in the church. This is the Temple of Reason and the Temple of the Supreme Being. The nineteenth century saw a succession of jobs that require constant aid and extraordinary charges challenged by the non-practitioner. Reinstalling new bells was one of the objects of contention between the abbot and the mayor. Despite the opposition of the City Council, new bells were put in place in 1886. A third bell was melted and implemented in 1911. The clock was installed in 1900. |
