Description |
Roman relief with masks on the front and a sea monster on the back. Two images show the same relief: front side, back side. These two-sided mask reliefs were studied by Hans-Ulrich Cain: Hans-Ulrich Cain, Chronologie, Ikonographie und Bedeutung der römischen Maskenreliefs, in: Bonner Jahrbücher, vol. 188, 1988, pp. 107–221. The New York relief does not yet seem to be listed in his catalogue. |
