Description

I have the pleasant dilemma of sorting through several first-rate sunset photos from a couple days before last Christmas, that got forgotten in the confusion of the holidays. This striking photo definitely makes the cut, and there are two more that might. Decisions, decisions.... Those cork-screw clouds won me over.

The fence line marks the boundary between the State Park and a small county park for beach access.

New San Simeon, aka San Simeon Acres, is the motel and visitor services development built mostly in the 1960s to 1990s, mostly to serve Hearst Castle visitors. The development also includes a number of condo complexes, many of which are also available for vacation rentals. Historic San Simeon, a few miles further north near the entrance to Hearst Castle, is the original town and includes the Sebastian Store, the oldest standing wooden building in the county. If memory serves, it was dragged over to its current location from San Simeon Point, where it served an active shore-whaling operation in the late 19th century. The store was built in 1852. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sebastian_Store
