Summary
[edit]DescriptionMappercombe Manor House - geograph.org.uk - 1239605.jpg |
English: Mappercombe Manor House Mostly early C17 with a C15 east wing (hidden - far right), the house comprises three adjoining blocks. These are, the aforementioned C15 east wing, an early C17 main block on the right (set forward slightly from the rest), and the remainder being late C17 comprising the entire western side. The manor of Mappercombe originally belonged to Cerne Abbey, but eventually came into the possession of the Browne family at the beginning of the C17, who began the process of enlargement of the existing house. From the late C18 to the present day, a succession of distinguished naval officers owned Mappercombe, with the son of the late Lt Commander William Crutchley RN becoming the present owner in 2007. The house is grade I listed. |
