The country's largest arena when it was built in 1932, it was home to the Toronto Maple Leafs for 68 years and was a major venue for other sporting events, political rallies, religious services, and concerts, From the Metropolitan Opera to The Beatles, Winston Churchill to John Diefenbaker and Pierre Trudeau, and the 1972 Summit Series to the Ali-Chuvalo title fight, the Gardens played host to celebrities and major events and holds a special place in Canada's popular culture.
