João da Costa Ferreira era engenheiro militar com vasta experiência em obras civis e militares. Destacou-se em Portugal nas obras da reconstrução de Lisboa e em obras de edifícios públicos como hospitais, museus e laboratórios. No Brasil, foi o que mais se destacou entre os engenheiros enviados, principalmente devido à sua contribuição à capitania de São Paulo. |
