Русский: Джон Сенекс (ок. 1678-1740 гг.) был английским геодезистом, гравером, книготорговцем и издателем карт и атласов. Он служил географом при дворе королевы Анны и в 1728 году был избран в члены Королевского общества. Français : John Senex (vers 1678-1740) était un géomètre, graveur, libraire et éditeur de cartes et d'atlas anglais. Il fut géographe auprès de la reine Anne et fut élu membre de la Royal Society en 1728. Parmi ses nombreuses œuvres, on trouve A New General Atlas: containing a geographical and historical account of all the empires, kingdoms, and other dominions of the world (Un atlas général contenant un compte rendu géographique et historique de tous les empires, royaumes et autres dominions du monde), publié en 1721. Cette carte du Moyen-Orient est l'une des 34 cartes de cet atlas. Senex emprunta abondamment au grand cartographe français Guillaume de l'Isle, se contentant souvent de traduire les cartes de ce dernier en anglais. La carte de Senex contient beaucoup de notes informatives, comme « Dans les déserts se trouvent les ruines de nombreuses villes anciennes », « Puits de bonne eau » et « Puits de mauvaise eau ».
English: John Senex (circa 1678-1740) was an English surveyor, engraver, bookseller, and publisher of maps and atlases. He served as geographer to Queen Anne and was elected to the Royal Society in 1728. Among his many works was A New General Atlas: containing a geographical and historical account of all the empires, kingdoms, and other dominions of the world, published in 1721. This map of the Middle East is one of 34 maps in the atlas. Senex borrowed liberally from the great French mapmaker Guillaume de L’Isle, often simply translating the latter’s maps into English. Senex’s map contains many informative notes, e.g., “In the Desarts are to be Seen the Ruins of many Ancient Citys,” “Wells of good water,” and “Wells of bad water.”

Ele serviu como geógrafo para a Rainha Anne, e foi eleito membro da Sociedade Real em 1728. Entre suas muitas obras estava Um Novo Atlas Geral: contendo um relato geográfico e histórico de todos impérios e outros domínios do mundo, publicado em 1721. Este mapa do Oriente Médio é um dos 34 mapas do atlas. Senex emprestou livremente do grande cartógrafo francês Guillaume de L'Isle, muitas vezes apenas traduzindo os mapas deste para o inglês.
