Many Pay Final Tribute To Walter M. Dear. Among the hundreds who paid their respects to the memory of the deceased at the Bunnell Funeral Home Jersey City was a large group of employees and former employees of The Jersey Journal. Included among these were Eugene Farrell editor of the paper Rudolph E. Lent, John Harnett, Harry Mead, John Dale, Ann Lauten, Helen Manning, Hilda Couch, Mrs. Francis Frederickson, James Croall, Charles Lautenschlager, Mrs. Frank Hilton, John Farrell, Stephen A. Magura, A. J. Lamont, Edward Reineman, J. Gorlick Jr., Duncan J. Stuart, Richard Shanahan, Mrs. John Larkin, Charles Buchwalder, Mrs. Joan Steinhauser, Buchwalder Walter Rickard John Havas Betty Foley, Helen Vukotioh, and Mrs. Julia Sturm. The list of public figures was headed by Mayor Thomas Gangemi of Jersey City. Others were former Jersey City Commissioner James Murray, former Judge John Drewen, Caleb Ringle Jr., former Jersey City Commissioner Donald Spence, Robert Beatus, Lawrence Carey president of the Trust Company of New Jersey, Robert Adams, Eric Korman, and Frank Fisher Trust Company of New Jersey vice presidents Ernest Zirma also of the bank William Neumann president of the Provident Institution of Savings Mrs. Richard Hunke president of the Jersey City Woman’s Club the Rev Slade Danzoll pastor of the First Presbyterian Church rank Hoonan, Dr. J. D. Katzle Curtis Plant Manton I. Graff, Otto Winblad. Benjamin Schlossberg James Mitchell and James Kennedy The entire board of directors of the Trust Company of New Jersey attended the funeral today at The funeral of Walter M Dear former publisher and co-owner of The Jersey Journal was held today with services at the First Presbyterian Church, Emory Street, Jersey City. Interment was at Greenwood Cemetery in Brooklyn The service was attended by friends former newspaper associates public officials and men and women in the professions who had known Mr. Dear during his long journalistic career They taxed the seating capacity of the church. In paying his respects at the funeral home last night, Mayor Gangemi recalled that he remembered Mr. Dear and other members of his family from as far back as the days when The Jersey Journal was located at 37 Montgomery St “or more than 50 years Walter Dear’s contributions to the civic and cultural growth of Jersey City were unsurpassed” Gangemi said “Mr. Dear was highly respected by people of all walks of’ life Serving with the utmost dignity he provided courageous leadership and civic programs he championed are still bearing fruit” the mayor added "Jersey City is deeply indebted to Mr. Dear for jiis boundless faith in the city and - for his many years of dedicated service to all the people" Gangemi said.
