Manung Kangcheipung (Manoong Kangjeibung) - erstwhile polo ground of the Meitei royalty & nobility inside the Kangla Fort in Imphal, Kangleipak

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Manung Kangcheipung (Manoong Kangjeibung) is the polo playground of the Meitei royalties & nobles, located inside the Kangla fort in Imphal, the capital city of Kangleipak (Manipur). It was developed for the first time during the time of Ancient Meitei King Ningthou Kangba (c. 1405 BCE – c. 1359 BCE) and later re-developed during the reign of Medieval Meitei King Ningthou Marjit Singh (c. 1813 CE – c. 1819 CE). In Classical Meitei language (Literary Manipuri language / Kanglei / Meetei / Meithei / Poirei language), "Manung" means "inner" and "Kangjeibung" (or "Kangcheipung" in Ancient Meitei) means "polo ground". Presently, this historic polo ground is also serving as a helipad.
