EXPLOSIFS LES explosifs sont sous forme de solides ou liquides quipeuvent être changés instantanément par une étin-celle, une chaleur intense ou un choc puissant, en desgaz ayant une centaine de fois le volume de lexplosif soussa forme première. Le charbon et le bois sont trans-formés lentement en grand volume gazeux par la combus-tion; leau est aussi lentement transformée en une grandequantité de gaz (vapeur) en la faisant chauffer. Ceci esttoute la théorie des matières explosives et explique, en peude mots, ce qui serait autrement difficile à décrire, et quiest facilement compris si lon se rappelle cette théorie.Les explosifs servant à la mine sont divisés en deux classes.Les explosifs à basse pression, ou poudre à miner, qui fontexplosion au moyen dune étincelle, et les explosifs à hautepression, connus sous le nom de dynamite, qui éclatent parun choc violent.
