Description
Español: Manuel Blanco Encalada (Buenos Aires, Virreinato de la Plata, 21 de abril de 1790 — Santiago, 5 de septiembre de 1876) fue un militar y político chileno nacido en territorio argentino.

Tras luchar en la guerra de independencia española, fue capitán del ejército patriota bajo las órdenes de José Miguel Carrera durante el período de la Patria Vieja chilena, y en la Patria Nueva se incorporó como oficial en el Ejército Unido Libertador de Chile. En junio de 1818, se convirtió en el primer Comandante General de Marina y jefe de la escuadra.

En 1826, fue electo provisoriamente como Presidente de la República de Chile, siendo la primera persona en ostentar dicho título. En dicho cargo se mantuvo apenas dos meses. Posteriormente volvió a las labores militares, participando en el Ejército Unido Restaurador durante la guerra contra la Confederación Perú-Boliviana. Como general en jefe de la primera expedición firmó el tratado de Paucarpata, que sería rechazado posteriormente por su propio bando.

Posteriormente, ejerció como diplomático en Francia y senador de la República.
