Text Appearing Before Image:
f a yellowish tinge, appa-rently formed of concentric laminae, which only become more evi-dent on the addition of acetic acid. They are ordinarily microscopic, but are often found in considerable numbers, and occasionallyaccumulate into masses of the size of a pea or small nut. Aceticacid acts very slowly upon them, destroying their opacity, butnot altering their configuration. They are not found in earlyinfancy, but occur so frequently in advanced life that they almostappear to be a normal constituent. Erom their behaviour withreagents Virchow calls them corpora amylacea, but the termconcentric corpuscles, suggested by Dr. H. Jones, is more ap-propriate. Besides these bodies (which are known by giving a brown, dark,or sometimes almost blue colour with iodine) other bodies of more CHOROID PLEXUS. 251 or less concentric structure are met with—the psammomata ofYirchow. They represent merely an exaggeration of the brainsancl met with in every choroid plexus. They are especially Fig. 61.
Text Appearing After Image:
The upper part of the fig-ure represents a choroid plexus with several small tumours(at * * *), supposed at first to have been tubercular ; they proved to consist of aggre-gations of concentric corpuscles, cholesterine, and pure oil united by areolar tissue ;the concentric corpuscles which are shown below the plexus are magnified 100 diam. common on the fringe which extends from the choroid plexusesof the fourth ventricle between the outer surface of the cerebellumand the upper surface of the medulla oblongata, the so-calledflocculus. These structures have no pathological importance.Mineral acids remove the lime, with efiervescence, leaving ringsof animal matter. Cysts and Epithelial Changes.—Cysts of the choroid plexus aremore frequently mentioned by authors on account of their beingvisible to the naked eye ; they are minute, transparent vesicles, vary-ing in size from a poppy seed to a small pea ; and we generally meetwith them in brains in which we also find evidence of inflammat
