With a scalpel continue the transverse cutin ^ the bladder across the trigone, leaving the upper angles of the trigone in-tact and the ureters uninjured. By blunt dissection through the wound inthe bladder complete the exposure of the seminal vesicles, pick up the vasadeferentia and divide them as high as possible. Remember that the vasadeferentia pass around the lower end of the ureters which must not beinjured. Step 7.—Separate the deep attachments of the seminal vesicles, controllingthe resulting bleeding by clamps and ligatures. Remove the prostate, seminalvesicles, and about 5 cm. of the vasa deferentia in one piece. Step 8.—Pull the anterior wall of the bladder down and form an anasto-mosis between the anterior part of the bladder wound and the divided mem-branous urethra, using catgut for sutures. (Fig. 869.) Close the rest of thevesical wound by catgut sutures.
