DescriptionManta Sound Studio 3 (1983) MCI Recording Console.jpg |
Note the console uses VU meters instead of plasma vertical displays. Manta Studio 3 may well have been the last of the great analogue recording studios. Soon after it was completed, recording started to shift towards digital. Manta studio engineer, Sy Potma, assisted me with this photo. I was trying to capture the atmosphere of a recording studio control room with its subdued lighting and the different colours of the controls. Sy arranged the lighting and I used an Asahi Pentax Spotmatic II camera with a 28 mm wide angle lens using Ektachrome 160 tungsten-balanced 35 mm film and then took many bracketed time exposures. I think that this was the best. The Manta Sound studio complex, an architectural gem, was demolished to make room for a condominium. But many great recordings were made here. |
