Description The equivalent of the Holy See to the North Korea people, this mammoth bronze statue of Kim Il Sung was built in 1972 to celebrate his 60th birthday. The mural in the background depicts Baekdusan, the volcanic mountain sacred to Koreans on both sides of the 38th parallel. Visitors are expected to offer flowers and bow before the statue. Visitors will also be instructed to not take cropped shots of the statue in respect to the Great Leader, as he is addressed.
