Description

Pels af garvet rensdyrskind. Skindet var måske handlet hos tjukterne, et sibirisk folk, der garvede med bark. Inuit garvede ikke med bark.

De to spidse kiler af hvidt rensdyrskind på hver side af hætten skal forestille hvalrostænder. Kanterne er af skind fra jærv. Pelsens nederste lige kant har dekorationer af skind.

Antagelig fra Øst Kap ved Beringstrædet. Gave fra inspektør Olrik 1860.


Parka of tanned reindeer skin. The skin may be from the Chuchki, a Siberian people who tanned skins with bark. Inuit did not tan with bark.

Two pointed gussets of white reindeer skin on each side of the hood resemble walrus tusks. The trimmings are of wolverine skin. The straight bottom edge of the parka has decorations of skin.

Probably from East Cape by the Bering Strait. Gift from Colonial Superintendent Olrik, 1860.
