Summary
[edit]DescriptionManchester London Road Station during rebuilding geograph-2720234-by-Ben-Brooksbank.jpg |
English: Westwards panorama at Manchester London Road Station during rebuilding. View over Platforms 4 and 5 lines from the footbridge: ex-LNW and GC major terminus, also junction of the Manchester South Junction & Altrincham (LNW & CLC Joint) line. The latter is off to the right, with the line of wagons beside the cleared former locomotive yard where the extended island platform of the MSJ&A station is being built. In centre rear is the main ex-LNW No. 2 Box with its wartime steel canopy. On the left is the ex-GC (LNER) Box, controlling the LNER terminus of the main line from Sheffield via Woodhead. The train entering Platform 5 is the 11.50 express from Swansea High Street via Hereford, Shrewsbury and Crewe, headed by Stanier 5MT 4-6-0 No. 44835 (built 1944, withdrawn 7/67).
