| Description |
English: Manchester London Road Station, under reconstruction. View SE, towards Stockport, Crewe etc., also (to left) towards Sheffield. On the right, the former Manchester South Junction and Altrincham (MSJ&A) platforms are being completely rebuilt and extended, to become Platforms 13/14 on the line from Oxford Road Station; beside them the new signalbox is being built, while in the centre on its gantry is the old No. 2 signalbox (with massive steel roof provided for protection during the War). Behind that the 17.20 express from Sheffield (Victoria) by the ex-Great Central Woodhead route is arriving, headed by a Class 27 Co-Co electric locomotive. After reconstruction, London Road became Piccadilly Station. |
