Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Hampi Bazaar, also known as Virupaksha Bazaar, is a long street located in front of the Virupaksha Temple, dating back to the Vijayanagara Empire in the 14th to 16th centuries. This ancient market, about a kilometer in length, was once a thriving hub of commerce where traders from across India and beyond sold precious stones, spices, and textiles. The street is lined with pillared pavilions, many of which were used by merchants as shops and residences. The marketplace was a significant part of the urban planning of Vijayanagara, highlighting its role as a major trading and cultural center in South India.
