Description
English: Man head from the Notre-Dame of Paris. Limestone, Paris, middle of the 13th century. Taken down during the French Revolution to be used as building stones, bought and buried by Jean-Baptiste Lakanal for conservation purpose. Found in 1977 during restoration work in the basement of Hotel Moreau, headquarters of the Banque française du commerce extérieur (French bank for external trade), now Natexis Bank.
Français : Tête d'homme en provenance de Notre-Dame de Paris. Calcaire, milieu du XIIIe siècle. Mis à bas avec les autres statues de Notre-Dame pendant la Révolution française pour servir de pierres de construction ; acheté et enterré par Jean-Baptiste Lakanal à des fins de préservation. Découvert en 1977 pendant des travaux dans les sous-sols de l'hôtel Moreau, siège de la Banque française du commerce extérieur, aujourd'hui Banque Natexis.
