The left temporal bone is Avanting.Of the right temporal, the parts in the immediate neigh-bourhood of the auditory foramen, the mastoid process, and a considerable portion of the squamous element ofthe temporal are well preserved (Fig. 23). The lines of fracture which remain between the coad-justed pieces of the skull, and are faithfully displayedin Schmerlings figure, are readily traceable in the cast. The sutures are also discernible, but the comj)lex dis-position of their serrations, shown in the figure, is notobvious in the cast. The proportion of the length tothe breadth is therefore very nearly as 100 to 70. If aline be drawn from the point at which the brow cnrvosin towards the root of the nose, and which is called the^^ glabella (a), (Fig. 23), to the occipital protuber-ance (h), and the distance to the highest point of thearch of the skull be measured perpendicularly from thisline, it will be found to be 4.75 inches. Viewed fromabove. Fig. 24, J., the forehead presents an evenlyrounded curve, and passes into the contour of the sidesand back of tlae skull, which describes a tolerably regu-lar elliptical curve. The front view (Fig. 24, B) shows that the roof ofthe skull was very regularly and elegantly arched in thetransverse direction, and that the transverse diameterwas a little le
