About 25 per cent, of all cases of abscess in theprostate result fatally, in spite of the most carefultreatment, while of those that are not treated morethan double that number die. The treatment of acute prostatitis, in addition tocarefully selected medication, is absolute rest in bed, adiet consisting of milk and nothing else and theprompt application of poultices or leeches. Where thepain cannot be borne, opium, morphine or belladonnamay be prescribed; preferably in the form of supposi-tories. A cathartic should always be given in thebeginning of the disease. If an injection is beingused for Gonorrhoea, it should be immediately stopped. Chronic Prostatitis is much oftener seen than theacute; it arises from the same causes, most frequentlyfollowing the acute form, though it sometimes beginsgradually as a chronic condition. It commonly occurswith chronic Gonorrhoea or Gleet and in masturbators,
