the in-fection. Mucus is less abundant, and the number ofgonococci outside of the pus cells greater. The most common form of chronic gonorrhoeais that evinced by the morning drop, but the pres-ence of a drop of discharge at the end of the peniseach morning is no more evidence of the existenceox gonococci than its absence is proof that the diseaseis not present. Gonorrhoea is too often a subject for ridiculeand jest. The unfortunate individual with the clapnotices that his friends look upon his malady lightly,and enjoy cracking jokes about his condition, thecommon expression being he is not a man until hehas had the clap. Sufficient importance, therefore,is not given to the serious results that may followneglect, or the terrible suffering that may be causedanother. The following case is no unusual one, althoughit is seldom that a physician has the opportunity offollowing the history of a case so completely and con-nectedly. Being more economical than wise, he consulteda drug clerk, who lived in the same house, and underthe skilful (?) guidance of this young man succeeded,in about six months, in arriving at that conditionwhere the discharge was only noticeable in the morn-ing, jocularly termed the good morning drop. Hisurine was full of shreds or strings, he had no pain, butconsiderable anaemia and debility, muscular exhaus-tion and general malaise—a few weeks treatment driedup the morning discharge, but did not by any meanscure the disease.
