Summary
[edit]DescriptionMalvern Park, Solihull - restored Prancing Horse statue - 2012.JPG |
English:
I returned to Malvern Park in Solihull for the restored prancing horse statue (after it was vandalised earlier in 2012 by metal thieves) and the stone / plaque in celebration of the diamond jubilee of Queen Elizbeth II. Note that the Queen did not visit Solihull during the Diamond Jubilee year. The restored Prancing Horse statue. Readers of the Solihull News gave donations for it's restoration. How could metal thieves cut bits off it? Hope it doesn't happen again. Grade II listed statue - Statue of Horse and Horse Tamer in Malvern Park, Solihull SOLIHULL PARK ROAD 1. 5108 (North Side) Statue of Horse and Horse Tamer in Malvern Park SP 1579 1/519 II 2. Later C19 statuary group of horse and horse tamer on stone pedestal by Boehm.
Captain Oliver Bird, High Sheriff of Warwickshire (son of Alfred Frederick Bird, son of the original Alfred Bird) bought the sculpture at auction and donated it to the Borough of Solihull in 1944 after his mothers death. It was presented to the council in 1953. Boehm made many statues that are in London, including the Temple Bar Monument (which I've got a few shots of) and the Duke of Wellington at Hyde Park Corner. There is a collection of busts by Boehm in the National Portrait Gallery. |
