Summary
[edit]DescriptionMallikarjuna and Ramesvara twin Hoysala temples, Nadakalsi, Karnataka 01.jpg |
English: Nadakalsi, sometimes spelled Nadakalasi, is a small village in Shivamogga district. It was a major town by the 12th century by the time of Hoysalas. Then known as the Kundanad territory, the twin temples of Sri Mallikarjuna and Rameshvara are attributed to Baleyanna Vergade. These stand side by side, with the Mallikarjuna being the larger of the two. Both have a square plan (though the Rameshwara has oblong element in the mandapa). They are simpler, non-ornate illustrations of Hoysala temples. They include mandapa, garbhagriya and other elements of Hindu temple. Inside are polished pillars and Hindu artwork. Of particular note here are the Saptamatrikas, Mahisasuramardini and Ganesha. |
