35 mm slide; color. Scientific Classification: Kingdom: Animalia; Phylum: Chordata; Class: Mammalia; Order: Artiodactyla; Family: Bovidae; Genus: Gazella; Genus species: Gazella granti. Animal characteristics: Head-Body Length: 152-182 cm; Height: 75-91.5 cm; Weight: 45-65 kg; Identification: Grant's gazelle is a reddish-tan color with white undersides, a white rump patch with a black border, and a white face stripe framed in black from the horns to the muzzle. This gazelle also has a black stripe on its side, and both sexes have horns; Habitat: Semi deserts, open savannas, treeless plains; Diet: Herbivore: short herbs, leaves, grasses, fruit; Reproduction: A single calf is born to each female during the rainy season following a gestation period of six months. Grant's gazelles live to be 10-12 years old in the wild; Social Structure: Grant's gazelles are usually found in mixed herds with several hundred members. These groups are very unstable, with individuals consistently coming and leaving; Behavior: Males set up territories for the breeding season; Status: No special status; Interesting Facts: Common predators of this gazelle include jackals, hyenas, and large cats.
