Summary
[edit]DescriptionMalahide Castle - geograph.org.uk - 1619737.jpg |
English: Malahide Castle One of the oldest and most historic castles in Ireland. Home of Talbot family from 1185 to 1975 (790 years), with the exception of the period from 1649 to 1660, when Oliver Cromwell granted the property to Miles Corbet after the Cromwellian conquest of Ireland. Following the demise of Cromwell, Corbet was hanged and the castle was restored to the Talbot family. The towers were added in 1765. In 1975, the castle was sold to the Irish State. The property covers an area of about 250 acres. The castle originally was a fortress and became a stately home. |
