Animal characteristics: Head-Body Length: 14 cm; Weight: 18 g; Identification: The malachite kingfisher is a colorful bird with bright blue upperparts, a green crown, a white stripe on the side of its neck, and orange-brown underparts and face; Habitat: Lakes, rivers and streams; Diet: Carnivore: fish, insects, tadpoles, frogs; Reproduction: Breeding occurs from August to February. Nests are built in riverbank tunnels. Three to six eggs are incubated for 15 days; Social Structure: The malachite kingfisher is solitary; Behavior: Kingfishers are a diurnal species. They catch their prey by diving from a branch or stem overhanging the water; Status: No special status.
