English: Malabar pit viper(Yellow morph)
Trimeresurus malabaricus, commonly known as Malabar pit viper, rock viper or Malabar rock pit viper is a venomous pit viper species endemic to southwestern India Highly variable snake in terms of colouration, the different morphs of MPV were neither age related, not sex related and nor seasonal differences. They just happen to be, it seems. One of nature’s mysteries. This snakes can also appear in green, brown, orange and even a maroon morph. T. malabaricus is slow-moving, but capable of fast strikes. Its venom causes moderate pain and swelling to humans. These symptoms subside in a day or two. It may be locally threatened by loss of forest habitats (through conversion of land to agricultural or urban use), however, it is adaptable and can occur in modified habitats. |
