Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Copy of a Makurian dancing mask as depicted on a mural in the monastery of the Holy Trinity (12th-13th century). The zoomorphic mask is decorated with cowrie shells and an ostrich feather on the top. The eyes are left open, while the mouth is painted on. The mask bears great similarity with dancing masks of the Bambara in present-day Mali. For more info, including the whole dancing scene, see Martens-Czarnecka's "A Scene of a Ritual Dance (Old Dongola – Sudan)" (2008).
