The Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in March 2010 held a contest to see who could make the most creative makgeolli glasses. Makgeolli, the Korean traditional rice wine, has seen an increase in sales both locally and globally, and this contest was organized to find a perfect glass just right for makgeolli. A total of eight entries were nominated and one of the most beloved was this piece (see the picture) named “Howolbae,” which means a bright-moon glass, by Park Young-dong and Park Wan-su. You will see a full moon of makgeolli when you pour the drink, then as you sip it, you will see the full moon wane into a crescent. (Photo: Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries) |
