Description

12 November 2010, View across Down Lane Park towards the slabs of Hale "Village" half-a-kilometre away.

Each day that passes shows more plainly that the Hale Village development was a squandered opportunity. The land and buildings to the east of Tottenham Hale Station once belonged to the Greater London Council. In saner times it could have become new publicly owned homes and public services. All built on a human scale.

In November 2010 we got news of another damaging development. A planning application - later approved - had gone in to raise the height of the northwest block and convert it to yet more student accommodation.

. . . Plus a very real Green Link

On this previous page I discussed another piece of make-believe: the plan for a wasteful and unnecessary "Green Link" slicing from Ashley Road across the southern part of Down Lane Park. I said this folly had cast a planning blight over the Park.

Here you can see why the scheme is not needed.

In case you're an urban planner or a regeneration expert and can't immediately spot the blindingly obvious, please don't panic. Keep calm. Take a deep breath. Think about the word "link". Then about the colour "green". Give it time. Try to work out the answer without hiring a consultant.
