Description
English: The Makah used their large canoes for long-distance travel and for hunting whales. In this photo, taken at Neah Bay by Anders Wilse, a group of Makah men pull their canoe up on the beach on rollers. This canoe also has a cloth sail which is furled in the bow of the canoe. Before European contact, the Makah used cedar bark sails on their canoes.
