Description Major General, Staff & Line Officers (Undress, 1841-1850), Plate XYIII, Uniform of the Army of the United States, illustrated, from 1774 to 1889. Washington, D.C.: Quartermaster General of the Army of the United States, 1890. Note: The artist H.A. Ogden created these color plates to document the uniforms of the American soldier from the Revolution to 1888. Ogden received $100 for each completed illustration and ultimately completed 47 works. Here he illustrates US officers with an enlisted dragoon in the background from the Mexican War era.
