Summary
[edit]DescriptionMajesticSidewalkTrashcans.jpg |
English: A pair of metal trash containers in the sidewalk, New Orleans.
This was formerly common in some neighborhoods of New Orleans. Beneath the lids were metal cans which the garbage collection workers would pull up with a special hook and dump in the truck. The city phased out collecting from such in-sidewalk cans sometime in the late 1980s or early 1990s. Most such cans and lids have been removed and the holes filled in with cement; occasional remaining examples can still be seen but they are no longer used. |
