Description : Aucune autre demeure bourgeoise à Montréal ne possède un décor aussi chargé que celui de la maison Lord Mount Stephen, autant à l'extérieur qu'à l'intérieur. L'ornementation reste cependant dans les limites du bon goût. La maison est élevée dans un style victorien d'inspiration italienne de transition. Elle compte parmi les dernières et les plus opulentes des maisons à avoir été érigé dans ce style en Amérique. En fait, elle se situe à la croisée de plusieurs chemins ; elle combine audacieusement la Renaissance et le baroque italiens avec le baroque anglais du 18e siècle, dont c'est l'une des premières apparitions.
