Description

Stereo card view of Eaton's Main Store, main aisle from Yonge Street to James Street. Toronto, Canada.

Rear of card reads:

"A view of the Main Aisle on the ground floor looking from James Street Entrance to Yonge Street, one block in length. The aisle bears the same relation to our store that Yonge Street does to the City of Toronto. It is the main thoroughfare crossed at regular intervals by numerous aisles, bringing all departments on the ground floor within easy access to this main highway. In the picture - which was taken after closing hours - the appearance is very different from that presented during the day when thousands of customers regularly throng our store and take advantage of the wonderful values, all of which are placed within your reach through the EATON Mail Order Service.

"In this view, those who have not been able to pay us a visit can obtain some idea of the length of the store. The total length from the Yonge Street Entrance to James Street is 300 feet, and the fact that we require the use of our fifteen passenger elevators will give you some ides of the amount of traffic which is our daily experience. The store is fitted throughout with hydrants having hose attached, also with an automatic sprinkler system as protection in case of fire. This can be seen along the ceiling in the picture. It is the most up-to-date system of fire protection known."
