English: "Arjuna penance" or " Descent of the Ganges" has 150 sculptures in Rock. In Arjuna's Penance, the Elephant sculpture only was in big size. Behind this elephant sculpture, some real story is there. Yes, in ancient times Mamallapuram was one of the seaport points for Pallavas. At that time Elephants are very important for importing things from other countries like China, Roman, etc. It is in the way the elephants are viewed as important only by the Pallava King Narasimha Varman.
